Originaire de Dalmatie, en Croatie, Martina GULAN porte en elle les échos de la mer Adriatique, des plages de galets, des pins maritimes et des montagnes escarpées qui ont marqué son enfance. Ces paysages sauvages et contrastés exercent une influence majeure sur son évolution artistique. Tout comme le fait de jouer du piano depuis l’âge de 6 ans.
Peintre polyvalente qui met en œuvre dans son travail artistique, des éléments de nombreuses autres sphères de l’existence humaine, notamment de la science et de la musique.
L’imagination n’est pas une simple évasion dans l’irréel, mais une force profonde et exploratoire.

L’imagination est une grande plongeuse.
Martina a effectué des recherches et étudié les neurosciences, qui l’occupent depuis de nombreuses années. Conjointement à ces peintures elles-mêmes, elle nous en propose également une explication et présente leur signification, ainsi qu’une proposition d’une théorie de l’esthétique basée sur des fondements biologiques. En outre, elle problématise la relation entre l’artiste lui-même et ses œuvres ; en comprenant et en acceptant la dualité de l’artiste à qui l’acte de créer de l’art confère le rôle à la fois de participant à la création (actif) et d’observateur de son propre travail (passif).
Artistiquement et techniquement impeccablement placées et réalisées, avec des couleurs brutes et primaires fortes, avec des traits « masculins » et sans gradation tonale excessivement accentuée. Avec ces œuvres, Martina atteint un sommet inégalé de créativité, brisant les attentes liées à cette force qualifiée de « masculine » et la réinventant à travers quelque chose de totalement différent.
Avec les transitions tonales les plus sophistiquées, elle crée des images complètement figuratives, qui avec leur puissance, leurs idées et leurs thèmes peuvent facilement entrer dans le top de la peinture contemporaine mondiale. Des tableaux qui, au premier coup d’œil, vous coupent le souffle par leur art, où il n’est pas nécessaire de connaître le nom de l’œuvre, ni de comprendre son message. Juste de les regarder. Et n’est-ce pas la première et fondamentale tâche de la peinture ?
Citoyenne du monde, Martina GULAN a vécu à Vienne, en Autriche, et à Grenade, en Espagne. Aujourd’hui, elle partage son temps entre Paris et Zagreb, où elle travaille en tant qu’artiste indépendante, à la fois dans les médias traditionnels et numériques. Sa formation multidisciplinaire – école de musique, diplôme d’économie et MBA de l’université Webster de Vienne – ainsi que son expérience professionnelle dans le secteur des télécommunications et de l’impression graphique, enrichissent encore sa démarche artistique.
Polyglotte, elle parle couramment l’anglais, l’allemand, l’espagnol et apprend le français, ce qui traduit une ouverture au monde qui transparaît dans sa démarche. Son travail, ancré dans une réflexion sur l’imaginaire et la transformation des réalités, s’impose comme un miroir poétique de nos perceptions contemporaines, oscillant entre l’intime et l’universel.
Martina GULAN ne se contente pas de créer des images, elle façonne des expériences, des invitations à repenser le visible et l’invisible.
Une artiste dont l’imagination, comme elle le dit si bien, plonge en profondeur, jusqu’à transcender les frontières de l’art lui-même.
Originally from Dalmatia, Croatia, Martina carries within her the echoes of the Adriatic Sea, pebble beaches, maritime pines and steep mountains that marked her childhood. These wild and contrasting landscapes had major influence on her artistic evolution. As did playing piano since the age of 6.
A versatile painter who implements into her artistic work, elements from many other spheres of human existence, especially from science and music.

Imagination is a great diver.
Martina researched and studied neuroscience, which has occupied her for many years. Along with the paintings themselves, she also offers us an explanation of them and presents their meaning, along with a proposal of a theory of aesthetics based on biological foundations, i.e. biology. In addition, she problematizes the relationship between the artist itself and its works; understanding and accepting the duality of the artist to whom the act of creating art gives the role of both a participant in the creation (active) and an observer of his own work (passive).
Artistically and technically impeccably placed and made, with strong raw and primary colors, with « masculine » strokes and without excessively emphasized tonal gradation. Here Martina reached the very peak of her creativity, and one would not expect that the same, mentioned « male » hand, can easily transform into « something completely different ».
With the most sophisticated tonal transitions, she creates completely figurative images, which with their power, ideas and themes can easily enter the top of the world contemporary paintings. The paintings that at first glance take your breath away just by their artistry, where it is not necessary to know the name of the work, nor to understand their message. Just to look at them. And isn’t that the first and basic task of painting?
A citizen of the world, Martina GULAN has lived in Vienna, Austria, and Granada, Spain. Today, she divides her time between Paris and Zagreb, where she works as an independent artist, both in traditional and digital mediums. Her multidisciplinary training – music school, economy graduate and an MBA from Webster University in Vienna – as well as her work experience in telecommunications and graphic printing industry, further enrich her artistic approach.
A polyglot, she speaks fluent English, German, Spanish and is learning French, which reflects an openness to the world that shines through in her approach. Her work, anchored in a reflection on imagination and the transformation of realities, stands out as a poetic mirror of our contemporary perceptions, oscillating between the intimate and the universal.
Martina GULAN does not just create images, she shapes experiences, invitations to rethink the visible and the invisible.
